Drug peddlers arrested in Tinsukia district

Pengaree police, in association with Bordumsa police, arrested a female opium dealer from her residence at Bordumsa’s Koriajan in the Tinsukia district.

DIGBOI: Pengaree police, in association with Bordumsa police, arrested a female opium dealer on Wednesday morning from her residence at Bordumsa's Koriajan in the Tinsukia district. Earlier on Tuesday late evening, three peddlers were netted along with the contraband substance in their possession.

"Based on the statements of the three accused, we raided a residence of Tuleswar Moran at Koriajan this morning and arrested his wife Bhadravati Moran, besides recovering around 50 grams of opium from her possession," said OC Pengaree, Bokul Engti.

"Among the three arrested peddlers, one belonged to neighbouring Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh," said N Nitu Changmai, OC Bordumsa police station.

Bordumsa police in Arunachal Pradesh also arrested six drug peddlers from Dapkhu village in Changlang district along with sufficient possession. The anti-drug squad team was led by OC T Tamut.

"We have registered two NDPS cases in 24 hours viz, 17/2022, 18/22 and got seven drug peddlers prosecuted u/s 21 B and 27 of NDPS Act," said Tamut, adding that around 50 grams of suspected brown sugar was recovered.

"The way local people are extending support and cooperation spontaneously irrespective of jurisdiction, we are hopeful that we will be able to contribute significantly towards having a drug-free society soon," said OC Changmai while terming the public support as a 'textbook example of the willingness of common people to join the anti-drug crusade'. Based on case No 40/2022 registered with Pengaree police station, all four accused were prosecuted u/s 17(a) of the NDPS Act.
