BOKAJAN: Despite the regular crackdown on drug smuggling by Karbi Anglong police, persistent smuggling of illicit drugs continue along the Assam-Nagaland border unaffected. In one such failed attempt, the Karbi Anglong police foiled a bid to smuggle a huge quantity of Heroin into Assam early Monday morning.
As per reports, the Karbi Anglong police based on specific information intercepted a Maruti Suzuki Ciaz car in the 12 Mile area under Dillai Police Station along the interstate Assam-Nagaland border and on thorough search of the vehicle, the police team recovered 152 soap boxes containing approximately 2 kilograms of heroin from the vehicle. Police have estimated the value of the seized drugs to be over 14 crore in the black market.
Police also arrested two occupants of the vehicle identified as Lanahmai Stephen Thingao (28) and Veipuh Prou (25) in this connection. Both are residents of Manipur. "Preliminary interrogation revealed that the seized consignment was bound for Guwahati from Imphal in Manipur. Investigations are in a very initial stage and divulging more information would hamper the investigation process." Insp Mwblik Brahma, OC, Bokajan PS said.
The operation was carried under the physical supervision of APS Nahid Karishma, DSP HQ Karbi Anglong and was assisted by Insp. Mwblik Brahma,OC Bokajan P.S, SI(UB) Raju Duwarah OC Khatkhati P.S, SI(UB) Lutfur Rahman OC Dillai PS , SI (UB) Biplab Das and ASCOM Ravi Gill of 20 Bn CRPF C Coy along with 1 section CRPF.
