SILCHAR: Drugs continue to smuggle in and out of the valley despite vigilance by security forces though there has been significant drop in its transportation. After the detention of huge haul of intoxicating cough syrup by Churaibari police outpost on Assam-Tripura border three days back, another seizure of drugs worth Rs 2 crore was made by Karimganj police on Wednesday on a specific tip off from its own source.
The anti drug wing of Karimganj police laid a trap at Deubari village under Patharkandi block and arrested two smugglers with 40,000 yaba tablets. The smugglers have been identified as Islam Uddin and Shabbir Ahmed of Deubari village. The market value of the yaba tablets or drugs is around Rs 2 crore, pointed out Monirul Islam in-charge- Karimganj police anti drugs branch. Patharkandi police assisted the Karimganj police in its operation at the Deubai village. The dugs hauled up till date at different places of the valley will be consigned to flames in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who is scheduled to visit here. Officially, it is yet to be confirmed.
