Drugs worth rupees 2 crore disposed off in Goalpara and Dhubri

GOALPARA: The Goalpara district drugs disposal committee on Saturday disposed off seized drugs worth rupees 2 crore at the Rangagarh Firing Range area on the outskirts of Goalpara town. This was done keeping in view of the National Conference on 'Drug Trafficking and National Security' through a video conference which was inaugurated by Home Minister Amit Shah on the same day.

The narcotics and psychotropic substances which were disposed off in Goalpara are 9.90 kgs of opium/poppy straw, 5.930 kgs of cannabis, 48,970 Yaba tablets.

Mention may be made that an out-to-out clear operation has also been launched against the drug menace and cattle smuggling on Saturday under the supervision of VV Rakesh Reddy, SP of Goalpara district and a strong police team opted engine boats to reach out to some selected remote riverine areas where crimes like illegal poppy cultivation and cattle smuggling are seen increasing recently.

DHUBRI: Dhubri district Police destroyed and burnt drugs that it seized over the last five years from different parts of the district in the open field of Rangamati, 20 kms from Dhubri headquarters on Saturday.

Police sources informed that all the drugs seized by police of Dhubri, Gauripur, Golokganj, Agomoni and, Tamarhat police stations under Dhubri Sub-Division over the last five years, were worth Rs 1.5 crore. Drugs seized by Dhubri police include sleeping tablets, cough syrup bottles, ganja, and heroine.

Talking to media persons, Dhubri Superintendent of Police, Abhijit Gurav Dilip said that a pile of drugs seized by Dhubri police were in the police godown and was awaiting the court order to be destroyed. It was burnt today.
