Earthquake measuring 5.3 on Richter scale jolts Assam and NE

The northeastern region has been experiencing frequent quakes since June this year.

Guwahati: An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Ritcher scale shook Assam, Manipur and other parts of Northeast. The tremor was felt at 11.08PM and the epicenter of the quake, according to the National Centre for Seismology is in Tamenglong in Manipur at a depth of 28 km.

Tremors were felt in Guwahati and several parts of Assam. No reports of any casualty or damage to property so far.

This is the second tremor to jolt Guwahati in a week. A mild intensity earthquake measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale shook Guwahati city on October 3.

For Manipur this is the third quake over the past few days. Ukhrul in Manipur jolted by a quake of 4.3 on Richter Scale on Wednesday.

Last month, on September 1, an earthquake of higher magnitude, 5.1 occurred at 55 Km east of Ukhrul, Manipur.

The region has been experiencing quakes since June this year.
