Dibrugarh: Dibrugarh seems to have gone green this Durga Puja with most Puja Committees embracing the virtue of eco-friendliness.
One of the most attractive and biggest crowd-pullers, Jhalukpara Sarbajanin Durga Puja has taken the mantra of environment-friendly to the T. It has installed a unique idol of the Goddess that is made of clay and sand, devoid of any trace of non-biodegradable items. Themed on the lines of Chota Chardham, that is to say, Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri, the Puja has lot more in it to draw hordes of people.
Talking to The Sentinel, Amit Todi, vice-president of the committee, said that the objective behind choosing such a theme was to give those people, who for various reasons could not make it to the pilgrimage sites, a sense of vicarious spiritual satisfaction. He also mentioned about the kids zone which was expected to attract scores of children.
Observing its platinum jubilee, Shree Marwari Patty Durga Puja Committee is second to none, with meticulous planning going into a lot of things. Having discarded single-use plastic in all its forms, the committee even came up with dustbins made of gunny bags to drive home the central message of the dangers of using plastic. Rajesh Bajaj, secretary of the committee, said that they were expecting more people to turn up this year. He added, “We have paid special focus on lighting. Given the occasion, we are anticipating a sea of people, and as such, have taken special measures for crowd management. We have also hired private security personnel.”
