TEZPUR: Eco tourism at Panpur area of Western Range, Nagshankar of Kaziranga National Park (KNP) for the tourist season 2020-21 was formally inaugurated by MLA of Sootea, Padma Hazarika recently.

The gypsy safari at Panpur area was also flagged off as part of the eco tourism venture on the north bank of the Brahmaputra. Padma Hazarika also distributed cheques of Rs 25 lakh amongst five eco-development committees in the fringe areas of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in a ceremony which was held in the presence of Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur, Manvendra Pratap Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Biswanath, PK Sharma, and Director, Kaziranga National Park, P. Sivakumar.

The move is expected to benefit the people of the area as well as nearby areas on the north bank of the Brahmaputra and encourage them to engage themselves in tourism-related activities. DFO Suhas Kadam, DFO ArunVignesh, DFO PallabDeka, DFO Biswanath Wildlife Division Mukut Das, other dignitaries, local villagers and members of gypsy associations from Bagori and Kohora were present in the function where around 10 gypsy vehicles from the south bank, along with department AI country boats, also took part.
