TANGLA: Lockdown restrictions and coronavirus pandemic failed to dampen the spirit of Eid-ul-Fitr in Udalguri as members of the Muslim community celebrated the festival by staying in their respective homes and offering Eid namaz by maintaining social distancing on Monday.
While Eidgah fields wore a deserted look following the appeal from the authorities to maintain social distancing, in mosques across Tangla, Kalaigaon,Paneri, Garuajhar and Udalguri only 4 to 5 persons offered namaz by maintaining social distancing norms while most of the devotees offered namaz in their homes.
"This time, we offered namaz in our respective homes. We have already appealed to the people to stay indoors instead of visiting the mosques and Eidgahs to offer their prayers," said Safdar Khan, secretary of Bara Masjid in Tangla. Noor Alam, another local resident of Tangla town, also offered his Eid namaz at home along with his 3-4 very close family members. "We offered Eid namaz today by staying at home and maintaining social distancing," he said.
