LAKHIMPUR: Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Phani Bhusan Choudhury visited Lakhimpur on Friday in order to review the COVID-19 situation in the district. During their visit, they took part in a meeting with the district administration and other concerned line departments held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. Lakhimpur LAC MLA Utpal Dutta, Bihpuriya LAC MLA Debananda Hazarika, Lakhimpur BJP president Phanidhar Baruah also took part in the meeting.
Interacting with the mediapersons, Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta said that the unplugged and damaged embankments of the State would be constructed and repaired soon, though the scheme concerned delayed due to lockdown process initiated in order to contain the COVID-19 pandemic contagion.
“In this regard, due approval was accorded and the construction and repairing works would be implemented with due expedition. The implementation of the schemes concerned will be completed within 15 days. In the meantime, the State Government has completed all the process of sanctioning the due funds against each and every,” he stated.
He further added that NEEPCO was instructed to spread prior information with regard to releasing the excess water through the river Ranganadi from Ranganadi Hydroelectric Plant located at Yazali in Arunachal Pradesh. “In this regard, the DC of the district was imposed responsibility to contact with NEEPCO authority,” he added.
On the other hand, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora said that the adequate measures had been adopted to address the problems and to repair the heavy losses of the farmers community, which they had to face during the lockdown days. Taking part in a meeting with the officers of the Agriculture Department, he directed them to initiate due steps to help the farmers community and to provide them all benefits of the due schemes adopted by Agriculture Department during the upcoming cultivation season. He informed the mediapersons that a sum of Rs. 18.42 crore was distributed among the farmers of Lakhimpur district during the lockdown period in order to relieve them and to manage their losses.
Food and Civil Supply Minister Phani Bhusan Choudhury informed that there would be no dearth and shortage of essential commodities in the State during the lockdown.
“At present, adequate amount of essential commodities have been stocked in the State. Taking the advantage of the situation, though a section of dishonest businessmen have sold the essential commodities at exorbitant price, the district administrations have kept closest watch on them and due legal actions have been taken against them. No corruption, which may pose against the interest of the common people of the State, will not be tolerated,” affirmed Minister Phani Bhusan Choudhury while interacting with the mediapersons.
