SIVASAGAR: Sivasagar Natya Samaj, with support of the family members of Anil Ch. Dutta, a senior member of Sibsagar Bar Association, who passed away on February 13, organized a memorial meet to pay tribute to Anil Chandra Dutta on Sunday at his residence at Seujpur in Sivasagar town.
The meeting was attended and graced by the presence of Sivasagar Natya Samaj president Dipali Chaliha, Ujanial Xatra Xatradhikar Lakhikanta Mahanta, noted educationist Dr Nahendra Padun, Principal of Sibsagar Commerce College Dr Saumarjyoti Mahanta, noted citizen Nitya Narayan Borgohain, Jagat Ch Gogoi, journalists Manoj Kr. Gogoi and Sanjib Dey and many others. Senior advocate Lohit Prakash Dutta remembered Anil Ch. Dutta as the pioneering force behind setting up of the present building of Sibasagar Bar Association.
Recalling his association with Anil Ch Dutta, advocate Dhiraj Dutta remembered that Dutta had been a champion of the bar for his knowledge of law and sincerity of profession. The meeting was also attended by many other noted advocates of Sibsagar Bar Association who personally knew Late Dutta, included president of the bar Ajit Kr Borpujari, secretary Diganta Mangal Neog, Bikash Dey, Bidyut Gogoi and Sanjib Bora and shared their fond memories and working experiences with Anil Ch Dutta.
In the memorial meet which was anchored by noted social worker Saurav Chaliha, a memoir titled Anil Xubash, edited by Jayanta Baruah, was unveiled by Madhurjya Narayan, District & Sessions Judge, Sivasagar. Earlier, the programme started with a Vishnu Vandana by two students of Sankardev Vidya Niketan, namely Ayushri Upanakh and Chirosmita Devi under the direction of Pranati Baruah, which was followed by offering of floral tributes in front of the portrait of late Anil Ch. Dutta.
Anil Ch. Dutta born on February 5, 1950 at Nazira Namati and started his academic career from Nazira. He graduated from St. Anthony's College, Shillong and obtained LLB Degree from Gauhati University. Anil Ch. Dutta joined the Sibsagar Bar Association in the year 1977 and worked as Additional Public Prosecutor for several years. Prior to joining in the Bar, he was working as Science teacher at Nazira Higher Secondary School.
Anil Ch. Dutta served as general secretary of Sibsagar Bar Association for two terms and was an executive member of Sibsagar Bar Association at the time of his demise. He was closely associated with All Assam Lawyers' Association (AALA) since a long time and represented the Sibsagar Bar Association several times and was also an executive member of AALA. He was also associated with Lions Club, Sivasagar, Life Member of Sivasagar Natya Samaj, Axom Xahitya Xabha and so many socio-cultural organizations. Dutta is survived by his wife, daughter and son and a host of relatives.
