PATHSALA: An employee of Bhattadev University sustained serious injury after a slice of roof of the building of Bhattadev University collapsed on him. The injured employee has been identified as Naba Sarma. Following the incident, Sarma was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Reportedly, the students of the university complained that the building’s walls and roofs have several cracks but despite their repeated complaints, the students alleged that the authority paid no heed to the concerns raised by them.

Bajali College which was established in 1955 was upgraded to Bhattadev University in the year 2019. Dhritiraj Talukdar, president of Pathsala Students’ Union said, “Today an employee of Bhattadev University was hospitalized after a slice of roof of the building collapsed on him in Science block. The building of the Science block is not safe for students. Earlier, we already complained the authorities in this regard. But no response was found.”

“A healthy learning environment in a university is only possible when students and teachers are provided with adequate facilities, not just related to teaching and learning, but also safe and sound infrastructure.”

“Despite the poor state of the building, the authority is still using this building for classes. Thousands of students attend classes daily in the building, which was constructed after the establishment of Bajali College, now upgraded to Bhattadev University. Bajali College was established in 1955.”
