TINSUKIA: The Tirap Autonomous District Council (TADCDC), along with other ethnic organizations of Tirap Tribal Belt under Margherita Circle in Tinsukia district, has demanded eviction of all illegal occupants and non-protected classes from Tirap Tribal Belt and cancellation of illegal allotments made to run tea estate business, coal and timber business to safeguard the interest of tribal people which is under threat.
In a press meet held at Tinsukia Press Club on Tuesday, Pallav Shyam Wailung, spokesperson of TADCDC, alleged that settlement officials, in collusion with people from non-protected classes, transferred the land allotment initially in the name of tribal people and subsequently to their name without paying any benefit to the tribal people even as all the resources had been procured from the tribal belt. The government agencies that have been harvesting in the tribal belt never paid any compensation to the tribal landowners, Wailung alleged. He also demanded to amend Section 166 and 168 of ALRR to contain the abuse of unscrupulous and erring officials.
The press meet was attended by Minturaj Morang, vice-president central committee TMPK, and other leaders.
