Exploring Assam’s treasures Maharashtra journalists dive into healthcare excellence and Sualkuchi silk

A total of 13 distinguished journalists from Maharashtra are currently embarking on a 3-day official tour of Assam, immersing themselves in the state’s multifaceted sectors and experiencing its enchanting tourism spots.

SUALKUCHI: A total of 13 distinguished journalists from Maharashtra are currently embarking on a 3-day official tour of Assam, immersing themselves in the state’s multifaceted sectors and experiencing its enchanting tourism spots. The primary aim of this excursion is to acquire insights into the inner workings of Assam’s diverse departments. Commencing their journey on Friday, the second day of their tour, the delegation had the privilege of visiting the esteemed All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Guwahati.

At AIIMS Guwahati, the journalists received a warm welcome and engaged in a productive and interactive session with the institution’s officials. During this session, Prof Ashok Puranik, Executive Director, AIIMS, provided with invaluable information regarding AIIMS’s substantial contributions to the healthcare sector in Assam and the entire North Eastern Region.

Dr. M S Lakshmipriya, the Mission Director of the National Health Mission, provided an extensive overview of the State’s health department and highlighted major milestones achieved by the department. The session also shed light on the remarkable achievements of the National Health Mission (NHM) Assam in improving healthcare services across the State. The journalists learned about various initiatives such as Swasthya Sewa Utsav, free drug services, free diagnostics services, buddy mother program, new hybrid model, and laboratory services.

Dr. Anup Kumar Barman, the Director of Media Education, presented the Medical Education & Research Department, offering insights into the current medical education and research landscape, upcoming projects, and departmental schemes.

During their visit, the journalists were given an exclusive tour of AIIMS Guwahati, providing them with first hand insights into the institution’s state-of-the-art facilities and its pivotal role in the region’s healthcare landscape.

Earlier on Friday, the Maharashtra Journalists’ Team visited Sualkuchi to explore the renowned hand-woven techniques used in creating traditional silk textiles in Assam. NEHHDC, Assam facilitated this tour to the Silk hub of Sualkuchi. The delegation will continue its exploration of Assam’s unique culture, initiatives, and picturesque destinations for another day, further strengthening the bond between Maharashtra and Assam, stated a press release.
