LAKHIMPUR: Extensive steps are underway in Lakhimpur district in order to make the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign successful.

In this connection, the Lakhimpur district unit of Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM) has initiated special moves. Notably, Har Ghar Tiranga is a campaign which has been initiated under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to encourage people to bring the tiranga home and to hoist it to mark the 75th year of India's independence. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the campaign to change our formal and institutional relationship with the tricolour into a personal one. The campaign aims to have citizens hoisting the national flag in their homes between August 13 and August 15. The idea behind the initiative is to invoke the feeling of patriotism in the hearts of the people and to promote awareness about the Indian National Flag.

To change the idea into reality, ASRLM, Lakhimpur has been making national flag with meticulous planning and execution. At present, the members of the self-help groups (SHGs), led by various stakeholders, under 34 zones under 9 Development Blocks of the district have been engaged to make a total of 1,36,000 national flags to make it accessible for the citizens. A total of 80 Tiranga sale points have been set up across the district and a total of 97,825 national flags have been sold through these sale points till date.

Simultaneously, rallies, staging of street plays, drawing competition among students have been organized at different places of the district in order to create awareness in this regard. ASRLM officer Dr Dipika Pegu informed that the making of the national flag to ensure the supply of the same to each and every rural household of the district would be completed by August 5. A total of 2,000 women SHG members of the district have been benefitted by being involved in making of the national flag, she added.
