Faizan Ahmed Case: Body Taken To Kolkata For Second Post-Mortem

Faizan’s body arrived in Kolkata, accompanied by Faizan's grieving parents. In line with the court’s directive, the body was taken to Medical College and Hospital, Calcutta for the second autopsy.

GUWAHATI: The mortal remains of Assam’s Faizan Ahmed, the 23-year-old student pursuing an engineering degree at IIT-Kharagpur, was exhumed and transported to Kolkata for a second post-mortem examination.

The body was exhumed by forensic experts from a graveyard in Dibrugarh on Tuesday, following an order of the Calcutta High Court to conduct the second post- mortem in Medical College and Hospital, Calcutta. Faizan’s body was then flown on an Indigo flight from Dibrugarh to Kolkata.

Faizan Ahmed, the boy hailing from a family in Assam’s Tinsukia, was found dead in his hostel room on October 14, 2022. The college authorities initially classified it as a suicide. His family, however, was not convinced and they alleged some foul play at work.

His family members then filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court on November 1, 2022, seeking a detailed probe into his death by a Special Investigation Team (SIT), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), or Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Faizan’s body arrived in Kolkata, accompanied by Faizan's grieving parents. In line with the court’s directive, the body was taken to the Kolkata Medical College for the second post-mortem examination. The directive of Calcutta High Court for the exhumation and further examination as his family was not satisfied with the progress the ongoing investigation has made so far.

After the post-mortem process in Kolkata is completed, the body will be returned and cremated. This time, the family has plans to bury Faizan Ahmed in their hometown. They are also expecting that the second round of examinations will shed more light on the conditions that surrounded his untimely demise.

This development comes at a time when the case continues to grip people’s interest, even as the events leading to Faizan Ahmed's death raises questions. The family has not lagged behind in their pursuit of justice has this has prompted further investigation, aimed at uncovering the actual truth behind this tragic incident, which occurred at IIT Kharagpur.

On Tuesday morning, a team of the West Bengal Police exhumed the body of Faizan Ahmed, who was found dead under mysterious conditions in the college’s hostel premises, from a burial ground in Assam’s Dibrugarh.

The team of West Bengal police officers from Kharagpur, comprising inspector Biswaranjan Banerjee (investigating officer), Manoj Kumar Singh, Prasanta Burman and Purushuttam Pandey, exhumed Faizan’s body after an order for the exhumation of his body was passed by the Calcutta High Court in order to conduct a second autopsy at the Medical College and Hospital, Calcutta, to ascertain if he died by suicide or not.
