Farewell to Rana Kumar Changmai at Tinsukia College

Several organizations and individuals, in an informal meeting at Tinsukia College, bid farewell to Rana Kumar Changmai

TINSUKIA: Several organizations and individuals, in an informal meeting at Tinsukia College, bid farewell to Rana Kumar Changmai who superannuated on Thursday.

Changmai had 35 years of illustrious teaching career at Tinsukia College as a faculty member in the Department of English. He was also Principal i/c for a brief period and also acted as president of Assam College Teachers' Association (ACTA). A diehard social activist, Changmai's remarkable contribution in de-addiction campaign in Tinsukia district and Arunachal Pradesh was noteworthy. Speakers in the meeting recalled their association with Changmai while highlighting his multifaceted personality said that his brilliancy in oratory always kept listeners captivated.

Among those who spoke in the meeting were Dr Jyoti Prasad Chaliha, Dr Apurba Bhaskar Gogoi, Dr Rishi Das, all former Vice-Principals, Dr Surjya Chetia and Dr Ranjan Kumar Das, Principal and Vice-Principal respectively, Mayuri Sharma Baruah of the Department of English, Joynal Abedin (Benu), Akhil Chandra Baruah of Surjadaya, Uttam Duarah, former head of Women's College, Kiran Rajkhowa of Mottock Sanmilan, Taranga Malla Baruah of Bordubi Jr College, representatives of AMSU, AASU and ATASU.

Dipti Duara Gogoi also sang a Rabindra Sangeet on the occasion. At the end, Changmai spoke a few words on his future plan, particularly on his association with newly-flouted political party-Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) as advisor. He said that he was committed to serve the society and the oppressed people.
