LAKHIMPUR: A farmer had to meet with a tragic death due to a violent attack by a rhino in Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district on Friday morning. The farmer has been identified as Sunil Doley (45), resident of Abhaypur Maj-Gaon under Dhakuakhana Police Station. As per information received, Sunil Doley went to his paddy field in the morning to reap paddy with his wife. At that time, the rhino was eating the matured paddy plants in the field. On seeing the animal, which was a strange creature for him, Sunil Doley informed the matter to other people nearby. Instantly, the rhino rushed to Sunil Doley and his wife. Though the farmer and his wife tried to run away from the animal's attack, Sunil Doley could not manage to do so and the rhino hit him violently with its horn. In the attack, the farmer sustained critical injury at several parts of his body due to which he passed away.

For the death of the farmer, the local people blamed the Forest Office of the subdivision. They alleged that they informed the forest officials about the presence of the rhino in the local area including the paddy field on Thursday. But the Forest Office concerned turned a deaf ear to the information due to which the tragic incident took place. Though three forest employees have been trying to trace the rhino in the paddy field since the morning, it was not located till the filing of this report.
