Farmers urged to adopt improved scientific method of crop cultivation

DIBRUGARH: A team of scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dibrugarh, headed by an expert in Agricultural Economics, Hemchandra Saikia, visited the crop field of Pathalibam under Khowang block recently.

While interacting with the participant farmers of the locality, Saikia urged farmers to adopt improved scientific method of crop cultivation on a commercial basis to the extent possible in the right time and place in order to reap the benefit of increasing net profit on a sustainable basis. For this, he requested farmers to use all the essential inputs judiciously giving more emphasis on organic mode of cultivation with minimum use of pesticides and chemicals keeping in view the harmful effect of environmental pollution and health hazard. Saikia also highlighted the benefits of new farm acts and requested farmers to go for contact farming or organized mode of crop cultivation or marketing or agro-processing in order to obtain their desired remunerative price on consensus basis where both parties involved would have win-win situation and farmers would be protected against severe price fall in uncertain situations.

Another scientist, an expert in horticulture, Sudeshnya Baruah provided her valuable advice about improved methods of cultivation in several horticultural crops like pumpkin, brinjal, cabbage, cauliflower and papaya to enhance their farm income. An expert in plant protection, Sanghamitra Sarmah gave some valuable solutions in effectively controlling various insect pests and diseases of tomatoes, potato, Assam Lemon, brinjal and king chilly. He urged farmers to apply right kind of medicines at the right time in an appropriate manner. Altogether 19 farmers participated in the programme.
