DOOMDOOMA: On the occasion of Pahila Bohag, Doomdooma Press Club honoured two distinguished persons of Doomdooma area, who had made outstanding contributions in various fields on Sunday. This year, the Press Club felicitated prominent educationist and former Principal of Doomdooma College, Dr. Abdul Quadir and veteran stage actor and social worker Prabhat Deka for their outstanding contributions to their respective fields.
The club’s delegation led by president Anuj Kalita and secretary Manoj Barua, visited the residences of the aforesaid two persons and felicitated them with bouquet of flowers, gamochas, cheleng chadars, a sharai, a book and a citation. They also greeted their better halves with bouquet of flower and gamochas.
In the citation it was mentioned that Rongali Bihu is a festival of harmony which is celebrated by people of different castes, creed and speaking different languages in Assam since ancient times and this festival strengthened the bond of unity and solidarity among them for centuries. At a time when divisive forces are trying to divide society in the name of caste, religion and race, and when religious intolerance is prevalent in society, we must work together to defeat those divisive forces among people of different ethnic groups.
In response to the felicitation, Dr. Abdul Qadir and Prabhat Deka appreciated the initiative of the club and thanked its members for honouring them. In the evening, the club led by its president Anuj Kalita and secretary Manoj Barua went to Doomdooma Police Station and greeted the Officer-in-Charge Inspector Jyotish Gayari and other police officers with a Bihuan.
