DOOMDOOMA: The female members of Doomdooma Pujaghar have been celebrating Jagannath Naam every year from the first day of Bohag to the last day of Bohag at a stretch for the past 53 years.

This year also they gathered at the venue on the first day of Bohag (April 15) after planting a banana seedling in the temple premises. The women consider the banana plant planted at the place of worship as Lord Jagannath and cover it with phulam gamosa throughout the month. On the concluding day, the banana plant is planted elsewhere and the fruit is offered as a gift to the naam.

After the naam prasang, Mah Prasad and bhog were distributed. It is believed that Lord Jagannath leaves Puri for pilgrimage on the first day of Bohag every year and returns to Puri on the last day of Bohag.
