GUWAHATI: Two separate ferry incidents have occurred, leaving passengers stranded and awaiting rescue in Majuli. The latest incident took place on Wednesday when a ferry carrying 40 passengers, along with a car and over 25 motorcycles, encountered a technical glitch in the middle of River Subansiri.

The ill-fated ferry was en route from Senimari Ghat in Majuli to North Lakhimpur when it experienced a technical issue, forcing it to halt its journey in the heart of Subansiri. As news of the stranding spread, immediate action was taken, and another ferry was dispatched to rescue the stranded passengers.

Just hours before this incident, another ferry mishap had taken place earlier in the morning. A ferry carrying 101 passengers embarked on its journey from Nimati Ghat to Kamalabari Ghat. However, it too faced an unfortunate turn of events and became stranded soon after departure. The stranded ferry carried not only passengers but also various vehicles, including two-wheelers.

In response to the distress calls, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) swiftly mobilized a team to the scene of the incidents. Their primary objective is to ensure the safe rescue of all passengers stranded in the affected ferries. Prompt measures are being implemented to bring them back to shore without any harm or inconvenience.

These consecutive incidents highlight the challenges faced by ferry operators in Assam's Majuli and the vulnerability of the transportation system in the region. Technical glitches can disrupt the smooth operation of ferries, putting the lives of passengers at risk.

Efforts are underway to investigate the causes of the technical malfunctions and implement necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The safety and well-being of passengers must be a top priority, and authorities are working diligently to address any potential lapses in the ferry services.

As rescue operations continue, the stranded passengers and their families anxiously await their safe return. The deployment of additional ferries and the involvement of rescue teams provide hope for a successful rescue mission.

These incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of maintaining regular maintenance checks, adhering to safety protocols, and ensuring the preparedness of emergency response teams. It is crucial to bolster the infrastructure and enhance the reliability of ferry services to mitigate the risks associated with transportation in the region.
