Fertilizer rake arrives in Lakhimpur district for the first time

The shortage of high quality fertilizers as per demand was a long lasting problem for the farmers’ community of Lakhimpur district.

LAKHIMPUR: The shortage of high quality fertilizers as per demand was a long lasting problem for the farmers' community of Lakhimpur district. Taking advantage of this shortage, a section of fertilizer retailers sold the poor quality chemical fertilizers in high prices at various places like Dhakuakhana, Ghilamora, Boginadi, Harmoti, Bongalmora, Bihpuriya, Narayanpur under the district.

At present, the problem has come to an end in the district with arrival of the fertilizer rake. For the first time urea rake came to Lakhimpur district as per initiative taken by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Deputy Commissioner of the district and the Agriculture Department officers. The rake was successfully unloaded on September 19 at North Lakhimpur Railway Station. From that day, loading and unloading of IFFCO Urea Fertilizer Rake became operational in North Lakhimpur Railway Station.

Prior to it, the fertilizer rakes came to Tinsukia only and the retailers had to bring the chemical fertilizers to the district from their. In this regard, Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan held detailed discussion with the Chief Minister to resolve the problem which came to an end with the Chief Minister's immediate steps.

As a result of it, the farmers of the district will be benefited to a great extent and they can purchase the urea at Rs. 5.91 per kilogram. At present, Lakhimpur district has received 1051 metric ton fertilizers.
