DIBRUGARH: One of the oldest business establishments - M/S Abdul Hakim & Sons and Md. Idrish Abdul Hakim at Cole Road -was completely gutted in a devastating fire that broke out at 2.30 P.M. on Wednesday. The loss of the property due to fire was estimated as Rs 1 crore.

Though the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, eye witness claimed that the fire broke at the rear portion of the shop which was common store house of the shop as well as its sister concern, MK Foam House located few metres away from the site of fire.

It is believed that the fire might have been caused from a burning cigarette or bidi bud in the rear portion of the shop which turned into inferno. The family members ruled out short circuit theory saying that there was no electricity at the time when the fire broke out.

The fire tenders from State Department, State Disaster Management, Army, Oil India Limited and Air Forces, however, brought the inferno under control after one-and-half hour battle and saved the town from a colossal disaster.
