Biswanath Chariali: The Chandamari branch of Assam Gramin Vikash Bank (AGVB) under Halem police station in Biswanath district was burnt to ashes on Wednesday night as a huge fire broke out in the bank building. Several computer sets, batteries, almirah containing bank documents and files and ledger books were totally damaged in the fire. Fortunately, no cash was destroyed as all the money had been shifted earlier to a safer place following a burglary attempt in the bank on December 2. Receiving information, police and two fire tenders rushed to the spot and managed to extinguish the fire. The bank management suspects foul play by miscreants in this connection.
