Tezpur: The first meeting of the district-level committee for Water and Sanitation Mission under Jal Jeevan Mission was held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office here on Monday.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Manvendra Pratap Singh, who is also the chairman of the committee which has officials from various line departments such as Health and Family Welfare, Agriculture, Water Resources, Social Welfare, DIPRO, Education, APDCL, Forests, and various other stakeholders among others. Executive Engineer, Public Health Engineering DIV I, Ali Akbar Choudhary is the Member-Secretary of the committee while EE, PHE, Div II Jitendra Nath Deka is the Associate Member Secretary. District Development Commissioner Farouk Alam was also present in the meeting.
The committee discussed the action plan for the 100 day Mission Mode programme to provide pipe water connection to all Anganwadi centres, schools and ashramshalas in the district and also reviewed the plan for providing functional household tap connections to all households in the district within 2022.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Manvendra Pratap Singh stressed the need to turn this campaign into a people's movement or Jan Andolan so that the local community could be sensitized about the need for effective and proper management practices to provide assured safe water, organizing awareness campaigns to sensitize local communities on their role and responsibilities in ensuring safe water to children and bringing out good practices and promoting learning through exchange of successes and failures.
