LAKHIMPUR: The officials of the Fishery Department, Lakhimpur District, along with police personnel conducted a raid on Wednesday at Milan Nagar Fish Market of North Lakhimpur town.
Illegal marketing of local gravid fishes had been going on at Milan Nagar Fish Market since a long time, though catching and marketing of local gravid fishes are restricted from April 1 to July 15 as per the Assam Fishery Act & Rules, 1953. During the raid, officials of the Fishery Department seized around 5-8 kg of local gravid fishes from the market. The Fishery Department of Lakhimpur district has appealed to the fishermen, fish vendors not to catch and market local fishes during the ban period.
