LAKHIMPUR: With the spike in the tally, five more COVID-19 patients were detected in Lakhimpur on Sunday. Of them one person is the employee of Health Department while the rest four are the returnees from other States. They have been identified as Jayanta Deka (39) of Japisajiya, Bhodreshwar Borah (26) of Letekujan under Simaluguri area, Banikanta Payeng (28) and Ripon Mili of Mothopur under Telahi area and Paban Sarmah (22) of Meraguriya under Laluk area.

Jayanta Deka is the Assistant Block Program Manager under National Health Mission (NHM) at the Simaluguri Subsidiary Health Center. He had been working at the Lakhimpur district NHM office for past few months. From July he has suffered from faryngitis problem and then his swab was collected for COVID-19 test. After he was reported positive for coronavirus infection, he was shifted to the isolation ward of North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital.

On the other hand, Bhadreshwar Borah, Banikanta Payeng and Ripon Mili are the returnees from Hyderabad while Paban Sarmah is the returnee from Bengaluru. The former three returnees came to Guwahati by flight and then arrived in Lakhimpur on July 15 by bus. Paban Sarmah reached Lakhimpur by flight on Saturday and he tested positive for coronavirus infection as per Rapid Antigen Test held on the same day at LTK College COVID Care Center. They were all shifted to Dedicated COVID Hospital set up at Telahi Model Hospital. With these patients, the COVID-19 cases has spiked to 345 in the district. Of them, 171 patients have been discharged while 174 are active cases.
