MANGALDAI: In their continuing intensified operation against the organized gang of timber smugglers, the staff of Mangaldai Forest Beat under North Kamrup Division on Wednesday seized five illegal saw mills from different locations of the district.
The timber smugglers have been doing a flourishing business with the smuggled wood illegally sawn in these saw mills. In the operation, the forest officials also seized a large number of smuggled timber logs. However, the timber smugglers and the owners of these unauthorized saw mills, on seeing the forest team, managed to flee away from the spot.
Meanwhile, the forest officials lodged an FIR in the police stations concerned against Saidur Ali, Ismail Ahmed and Masto Ali of Shyampur under Panbari Outpost of Dhula Police Station, Sohrab Ali and Akkash Ali of No. 1 Mazgaon and Moksed Ali of Karim Chowk under Daipam Outpost of Dalgaon Police Station.
Forest Beat Officer Debabrata Sarma led the forest staff in these successful operations as per the instruction of Divisional Forest Officer Dipak Deka of North Kamrup Forest Division.
