Flood affects several areas in Bongaigaon district

Following heavy rains from Wednesday night till Thursday morning, Chirang district witnessed flash flood and erosion in several areas.

BONGAIGAON: Following heavy rains from Wednesday night till Thursday morning, Chirang district witnessed flash flood and erosion in several areas.

Addressing the media, Gagan Narzary, District Information and Public Relation Officer of Chirang, said that the flood waters had affected as many as 42 villages, 13,237 people, 479.5 hectares of crop area and 920 animals. "Flood has also damaged six houses and three roads were eroded," he said.

Meanwhile, the administration evacuated 23 people from the flood-affected areas and opened 20 relief camps for around 6,372 inmates under Bengtal and Bijni Revenue circle, he added.
