DOOMDOOMA: A delegation of Flood and Erosion Struggle Forum (FESF), Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts, comprising president Binod Kedia, vice-president Bhabesh Upadhyay, secretary Prakash Rai and media adviser Santanu Goswami, visited the erosion affected Pahukhowa Koila Basti by the Kundil River on Thursday to take stock of the situation.

The government did not take any measures to stop erosion of Kundil River there for the last 25 years. It is surprising that no departmental action has been initiated even after the PWD road was eroded away by the River Kundil. During the last 25 years, besides the PWD road, 72 dwelling houses, namghar and school have been totally devastated by the erosion. Yet no government action was forthcoming. The helpless villagers then tried to straighten the bend portion of the river by digging a drain on their own in order to resist erosion. But they could not complete that due to lack of money.

According to the villagers there will be no erosion problem once they can successfully divert the river water along the straight path through the drain. The villagers want the government to come forward to take up the project. So, by an application to the Flood and Erosion Struggle Forum, the villagers sought their co-operation in solution of this vexed problem. Besides taking up the matter with the government, president Binod Kedia and secretary Prakash Rai of FESF has demanded of the government to take up scientific measures immediately for getting rid of the erosion problem.
