Flood preparedness meet held in Lakhimpur district

LAKHIMPUR: The flood preparedness meeting of Lakhimpur district was held on Tuesday in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office under the auspices of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA). The meeting commenced with Deputy Commissioner Summit Sattawan in the chair under the management of Manorama Morang, the in-charge ADC of DDMA. At the very outset of the meeting, the proceeding of the last year's flood preparedness meeting was read out. The Deputy Commissioner asked the departmental heads of the district to stay alert and prepared to tackle the imminent flood situation and to submit the Pre-Flood Action Plans before April 9 to the departmental office concerned. He also instructed the officials to remain vigilant to conduct a spot survey of flood damages to be suffered by the respective beneficiaries. The Deputy Commissioner instructed the Circle Officer (COs) to hold the Task Force meetings regularly to review the flood situation and to report the flood damages to the proper authorities.

On the other hand, the Water Resources Division of the district was asked to prepare a list of the vulnerable embankments and to initiate steps to protect them by implementing the precautionary measures as required. The Deputy Commissioner suggested the departmental heads not to grant leave to the officials under them and not to allow them to leave the district headquarter without any serious reasons during the flood season. Dhakuakhana SDO ((Civil) Gurnel Sing, DSP Nitya Ranjan Chutia, Lakhimpur Zila Parishad chairperson Manju Borgohain, departmental heads of the district, representatives of the Lakhimpur, Naoboicha, Bihpuria and Dhakuakhana LACs were present.
