DIBRUGARH: Socio Educational Welfare Association (SEWA), a pioneer NGO based in Dibrugarh, provided flood relief in collaboration with Rotary Bangalore Brigades at Gereki Nepali Village under Chabua Revenue Circle of Dibrugarh district on Thursday.

Through this relief programme total 32 families who are presently staying in makeshift shelters, received non-food items (NFI). These 32 families lost their houses and cropland due to massive river erosion. The relief materials included Tarpaulin sheets, mosquito nets, buckets etc.

Every year due to erosion, the Dibrugarh district has lost huge chunks of land and Brahmaputra and Dibru rivers have eroded large chunks of land mass under the Chabua revenue circle in Dibrugarh. The first wave of floods this year had affected the many villages under Chabua revenue circle and the people have to shift themselves to a safer place to save their lives. More than 90 per cent of land mass in villages like Tengabari Mirigaon, Rongmola, Geraki, Nepaligaon etc has been eroded, forcing people to take refuge at Bindhakota Mulukgaon.
