Flood Situation Grim in Dhemaji: 91 Revenue Villages, 13,096 People Affected

LAKHIMPUR: The week-long flood situation has worsened in Dhemaji district of North Assam. Flash floods caused by rivers like Siyang, Ramdhan Dikhari, Sille, Jiadhal, Gai and Na-Nadi had affected a total of 98 revenue villages under four Revenue Circles (RC) of the district, Jonai, Dhemaji, Gogamukh and Sissiborgaon RCs till Sunday. At present, a total of 91 villages under the four RCs of the district have been submerged by flood. Flood receded from 10 villages under Sissiborgaon RC decreasing the number of affected villages to 19 from Sunday’s figure, 29. On the other hand, flash flood submerged four more villages under Jonai RC increasing the number of affected villages up to 64 from Sunday’s figure 60.

As per report, flood caused by Jiadhal River, has affected six villages named Chengali Pathar Part-I, II, III, Dihiri Chapari, Hechuli Pam, No. 2 Changmai Doloni, Rangpuria, Simalaguri under Dhemaji RC while Na-Nadi has submerged three villages named Bamchenia NC, Choutalpur and Thaikeguri under Gogamukh RC.

On the other hand, rivers like Siyang, Ramdhan Dikhari, Sille have inundated a total of 64 revenue villages under Jonai RC.

Similarly, flash flood caused by Gai River has hit 19 revenue villages under Sissiborgaon RC. The present waves of flash floods have affected a total of 13,096 people, 769.25 hectares of crop area, 27,935 animals in the district damaging lots of infrastructures. District administration has distributed relief items in some flood-affected areas while departments concerned have initiated implementation of restoration works at different places to revive the damaged infrastructure.
