Flood wreaks havoc in Baksa due to incessant rains in Bhutan foothill

GORESWAR: Due to incessant rains in the Bhutan foothill and release of excess water of Kurichhu Hydro power project of Bhutan, the water levels of the Puthimari, Suklai Barnadi etc rivers flowing through Tamulpur sub-division have crossed the danger mark, breached embankments and submerged many villages in Baksa district.

The embankment of Puthimari river breached at Niz- Kukupa, Barpather, Harijora and Bagribari on Saturday night and many villages under Tamulpur sub-division were inundated.

Niz-kuchula, Barpathar, Chenigaon , Balabari, Harijora, Naramari, Balahati, Sonmahari, etc villages have been submerged and neighbouring villages face flood threat. The Goreswar-Rangiya connecting PWD Road has been flooded. The water of the Deosunga river has also submerged Bangalipara area due to non-construction of Deosunga river embankment.

The flood-affected families have been displaced as their residences have been damaged. Domestic animals have been shifted to safer places. The affected people of Goreswar circle demanded the Governor to take stock of the flood situation as he took the charge of the BTC administration.
