SILCHAR: A ceremonial distribution programme of sprinkler irrigation sets was organized by the Department of Agriculture, Cachar at the conference hall of DRDA, Cachar here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Kamal Baruah, ADC (Agriculture), Cachar. The programme was attended by Parimal Suklabaidya, Minister for Environment & Forest, Fisheries and Excise as chief guest among others. Suklabaidya dwelt at length on various initiatives of present governments under the leadership of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for the welfare and development of the farmers. He appealed to the farmers to adopt improved agriculture technologies to meet the growing demand of food grains, fish, meat and eggs, thus increasing their income and making India self reliant in these sectors. He emphasized on adoption of new technologies without compromising the traditional good agriculture practices. He appealed to the youth to engage in production of flowers, high value crops, fish, etc to avail the opportunity of local market demand. The Minister reiterated the importance of water in human life and also in agriculture. "Conservation and efficient use of water is of immense importance for sustainable agriculture," he added.
He also urged the farmers to utilize the sprinkler sets and other water saving technologies properly to fulfil the dream of the Jalshakti Abhiyan. He expressed his satisfaction over the slew of initiatives taken by the Department of Agriculture and district administration bringing benefits to the farming community.
Katigorah MLA Khalil Uddin Mazumdar requested the departmental officers and staff to render their best services to the farmers who are the backbone of our rural economy. Earlier, the purpose of the meeting was delivered by Dr. AR Ahmed, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer (Horticulture), Silchar, stated a press release.
