LAKHIMPUR: Former president of Lakhimpur district unit of BJP, social worker Rao Gajendra Singh breathed his last on Thursday at Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital around 3.00 pm. As per report received, he died due to cardiac problem. He was 56.

Rao Gajendra Singh was the permanent resident of Banderdewa under the district and he rendered his relentless service to the BJP since he joined. He left no stone unturned for strengthening the organizational base of the party in that time when there was no foundation of the party in the district. Later he was selected as the Lakhimpur district president of the party. He also acted as the executive member of the State level and national level executive bodies of the BJP. However, he lost the assembly elections for three times contesting from Nowboicha LAC. Once he contested in parliamentary election too from Lakhimpur parliamentary constituency. In that election, he was defeated by his nearest Congress contestant Ranee Narah. In 2021 assembly election, he was deprived of party’s ticket and then he contested from Nowboicha LAC once again as an independent candidate. He lost that election too. Later BJP expelled him from the party because of contesting in the election independently. However, he came back to the party some days back. He is survived by his wife along with a son and a daughter. His followers thronged at his residence after the news of his demise had spread.
