Former Congress MLA from Algapur Rahul Roy joins BJP

Former Congress MLA from Algapur Rahul Roy on Sunday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

SILCHAR: Former Congress MLA from Algapur Rahul Roy on Sunday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Rahul, son of former minister Gautam Roy, said that he left the Congress for its anti-CAA stance.

Rahul hailing from a family which had three generation link with the Congress, was the former Zila Parishad chairman and later an MLA. His father, once a powerful minister in Congress regime, also left the party and joined the BJP. He contested the last Assembly election from Katigorah as a BJP candidate but was defeated by his erstwhile party.

On Sunday, Raj Biswas, a former Ward Commissioner of Hailakandi and his wife Madhuja, who filed nomination as a Congress candidate for the ensuing civic body poll had also joined the BJP. Raj was a close aide of Rahul Roy. Later Rahul said, though born in a Congress family, he was always a staunch supporter of the saffron party. Rahul, who unsuccessfully contested the last Assembly election as an independent candidate from Udharbond, said he would be ceremonially take the membership of the BJP at Vajpayee Bhavan in Guwahati very soon.
