Guwahati: Former Congress MP Bhubaneswar Kalita who had announced his resignation from the Indian National Congress recently has joined Bharatiya Janata Party today. The former Congress chief whip joins BJP today in the presence of Piyush Goyal and Bhupender Yadav at BJP headquarter in New Delhi.
After announcing his resignation from the party, Bhubaneswar Kalita said that some of the Congress leaders have taken to term him as an opportunist on his decision of resigning from the RS. This has disheartened and disappointed him enough to take the final call of quitting the political party. He added that he no more bears any significance in the party and rather people have taken to disrespect him.
It is to be noted that Kalita was due to retire in less than a year as his tenure was to complete on 9 April, 2020. After Sanjay Singh, Kalita was the second Congress MP to resign from the Rajya Sabha and quit the party to join BJP.
