Former Jorhat ITI superintendent Sarbanonda Gogoi dies of COVID

GAURISAGAR: Sarbanonda Gogoi (83), noted social worker, resident of Jhanji Jamuguri Balamia village in Sivasagar district and former Superintendent of Jorhat ITI, passed away on Thursday night at Sibsagar Civil Hospital due to COVID-19. He had been admitted in the hospital last Sunday.

He started his career as an Instructor at Jorhat ITI and got superannuation on October 31, 1997 as Superintendent. He was an active social worker and was associated with various socio-cultural organizations like Phulpanichiga Anchalik Raax Utsav Kala Krishti Kendra, Chandradhar Gogoi Jhanji Jamuguri Sankardev Sishu Niketan and others. He also held the post of president of Morabazar Mandal Congress Committee thrice. His demise was widely mourned in the greater Jhanji area.

His last rites were performed on Friday at Sivasagar cremation ground following COVID protocol. His elder son Biswajit Gogoi is still undergoing treatment in Sibsagar Civil Hospital for COVID-19. Sarbanonda Gogoi is survived by two sons, a daughter and a host of relatives..
