DOOMDOOMA: The fourth death anniversary of former MLA of Sadiya Legislative Assembly Constituency and Marxist leader, Bipin Hazarika was observed at Doomdooma Press Club on Thursday.

To commemorate the occasion, a symposium was organized on 'Current political situation of the country and human rights' with Madan Mohan Chaudhury, former Head of the Political Science department, Digboi College, as coordinator, and Maneswar Barman, former Principal of Digboi College, as chief speaker. The programme got underway with offering of floral tributes in front of the portrait of Bipin Hazarika by Madan Mohan Chaudhury. Thereafter, addressing the gathering, chief speaker Maneswar Barman threw light on how the present BJP-led NDA government at the Centre was systematically destroying the democratic institutions of the country and had systematically brought different legislations to take away the rights of the peasants and workers in particular and the common people in general. By doing so, the government was helping the corporate sector of the country very liberally.

The symposium was also addressed by journalist Amulya Khataniar and Arjun Baruah, president of Tinisukia Zila Xahitya Xabha, journalist Dhiren Deka and others.
