KOKRAJHAR: The leaders of the Ex-NDFB and the UPPL of Bengtol Primary on Friday slammed Prithviraj Narayan Dev Mech, founder president of the Royal Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (RKRSU) and mediator of peace talks between the NDFB and the Government of India, for his insulting comment on BTC EM of Forest, Ranjit Basumatary, who was also the then general secretary of the NDFB (Saoraigra). The leaders of the UPPL and former NDFB expressed strong resentment over the baseless allegations and insulting remarks on Ranjit Basumatary that hurt the sentiments of the former revolutionaries and the Bodos as a whole.

Prithviraj Narayan Dev Mech commented on BTC EM Ranjit Basumatary, saying that he did not have the norms of being a lecturer in a college and thus left the college and joined the NDFB. He also alleged that Ranjit Basumatary did not get arms training in the NDFB. In a press meet held at Bodoland Guest House, Kokrajhar, on Friday, the then Chief Instructor and Recruiting In-Charge under the home wing of the NDFB-D, Rebgon alias Rajen Daimary, said the insulting remarks of Prithviraj Narayan Dev on a person having a respectable position were not only unfortunate but also strongly condemnable. He said Ranjit Basumatary was from the 39th batch of the outfit and imparted basic arms training. “NDFB is a common wing, but it has an army wing that maintains arms and arms training as well as action”, he said, adding that the NDFB has a 15-member National Council that decides the entire agenda and sorts out strategy. He further said the baseless charge of Prithviraj that Ranjit Basumatary had no norms for being a lecturer at Bengtol College and left the college to join the NDFB because of his inability to maintain a family burden was completely false.

D Rebgon clarified that the NDFB members did not join the outfit to make property or to earn money, but to fight for the cause of the Bodo community. He also said Ranjit Basumatary had the requisite norms of being a lecturer and had dedicated himself to Bengtol College for many years as a lecturer before joining the NDFB. He asked Prithviraj if he really came from the institution of Sainik School, then he could have knowledge about the discipline of the army and thus the NDFB, which also had high discipline. Meanwhile, the leader of Bengtol Primary UPPL said Ranjit Basumatary was a dedicated lecturer and also a good farmer and he made lots of contributions to society. He also said they would take legal action against him. Talking to the media, another ex-NDFB leader strongly reacted to the insulting comments of Prithviraj.
