Former Sonai MLA Anwar Hussain Laskar Dies

Anwar Hussain Laskar, former MLA of Sonai died on Tuesday.

SILCHAR: Anwar Hussain Laskar, former MLA of Sonai died on Tuesday. He was 58. Laskar, popularly known as Rana left behind his wife, a son and two daughters. Rana Laskar first won the Assembly election in 1996 as an AGP candidate. Later he joined Samajwadi Party and retained his constituency in 2001 too. In 2004 Lok Sabha election Rana pitted himself against heavyweight Congress leader Santosh Mohan Deb. Though Deb won the election and Rana finished third, he surprised everyone by snatching almost one lakh votes mainly from centres known as Congress strongholds. However amid myriad of controversies, Rana Laskar lost his relevance in politics. A family source said, Laskar, suffering from multiple diseases, felt discomfort late night and he was rushed to SMCH. He breathed his last there.
