Former Tinsukia Development Authority chairman Rajen Baruah passes away

Rajen Baruah, former chairman of Tinsukia Development Authority (TDA), politician, social worker and former BDO breathed his last

TINSUKIA: Rajen Baruah, former chairman of Tinsukia Development Authority (TDA), politician, social worker and former BDO breathed his last due to ailment at his Bengpukhuri residence on Monday. He was 72. In 1996 he contested from Sadiya Assembly Constituency with INC ticket after resigning from his service as senior BDO but lost. During later stages he served as an organisational secretary of District Congress and simultaneously he held the post of TDA chairman for 8 years since 2003.

In 2011 Baruah after leaving Congress joined Trinamool Congress and contested from Tinsukia Assembly Constituency. Baruah finally joined BJP and remained its active member till his death. Educated at St Edmunds College Shillong, Baruah was a prominent social worker and rendered his services through an organisation NGO Forum which he created to establish several unemployed youths.

Socially he was very committed and was attached with several socio-cultural organisations particularly Tai Ahom community. His death has been widely mourned in the district. He leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a son.
