Tezpur: State Health and Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday laid the foundation stone of a Model Hospital at Ghoirali Tea Estate at Rangapara in Sonitpur district.
The meeting organized on the occasion was attended by Minister for Health (State), Pijush Hazarika, Member of Parliament, Tezpur HPC, Pallab Lochan Das, chairperson of ASTC, Ashok Bhattarai and District Development Commissioner Farouk Alam, among others.
Addressing the large gathering, Sarma said the construction of the Model Hospital would be completed within 18 months, which on becoming operational would fulfill a long-felt need of the people of the area.
Speaking on the occasion, Member of Parliament Pallab Lochan Das said the present government was committed to bringing about all-round development of the people which was reflected in their popular policies.
Earlier in the day, Sarma laid the foundation stone of seven new roads under the Rangapara subdivision of the PWD (Territorial) Tezpur division. He also formally inaugurated the construction work of nine roads under SOPD-G for the year 2019-20, two bridges under RIDF-XXV for the year 2019-20, and another two roads under PMGSY for the year 2019-20 at the function at Ghoirali TE.
At a function organized at Rangapara College, Sarma formally announced the opening of the Science stream for the college. He also inaugurated the newly-constructed building of the Bodo department built from MPLAD funds given by Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary, along with a library and canteen built from funds allotted by MP Pallab Lochan Das and Minister of State for Health, Pijush Hazarika respectively. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said necessary steps would be initiated to fill the number of faculty posts for the Science stream as soon as possible so that student enrolment could begin from the next academic session.
