Four die of COVID in Tezpur

With four more persons dead, the highest number of COVID-19 cases in Sonitpur district was registered on Friday. The number of fresh cases registered on Friday

TEZPUR: With four more persons dead, the highest number of COVID-19 cases in Sonitpur district was registered on Friday. The number of fresh cases registered on Friday was 176, thereby increasing the total number of active cases in the district to 840. These cases were reported from various parts of the district.

On Thursday, 160 positive cases were reported in Sonitpur district. Official sources said, COVID positive Jahanara Begum (48) of Tezpur, GC Road, at TMCH, Bhabakanta Bora (75) at Gate Sukhada Hospital, Hemanta Bora (60) at TMCH of Parua and Abdul Kadir (58) of Darjeepatti, Tezpur died. The total number of COVID deaths in the district increased to 40 since May of last year till today.

Meanwhile, although the district administration has directed people to maintain social distancing, made wearing face masks mandatory and repeatedly appealed to the people to strictly follow COVID protocol, people and shopkeepers are seen flouting the social distancing norms in the district.
