Four suspected rhino horn traders apprehended by Assam Police

A joint operation of Dibrugarh and Duliajan police successfully busted a suspected trading circle of rhino horn on Friday.

NAHARKATIA: A joint operation of Dibrugarh and Duliajan police successfully busted a suspected trading circle of rhino horn on Friday. Led by Additional Superintendent of Police, Dibrugarh, Padmanabh Baruah, the joint police team along with Namrup DSP Kula Pradip Bhattacharyya and Officer in-charge of Duliajan Police Station, RupjyotiDutta, raided the house of ThanuGogoi (44) at Jaya Nagar of Duliajan and successfully apprehended one OIL employee, NijanDutta (56) of Duliajan, Dibya Das (37) of Lakhimpur and Rumi Devi Bhagawati (39) of Lakhimpur along with the owner of the house, ThanuGogoi after a day-long operation on Friday.

A suspected rhino horn was also recovered from the backyard of the house, according to police sources. According to information, Additional SP PadmanabhBaruah led the operation after getting information from sources. Later, PadmanabhBaruah told media persons at Duliajan police station that the decision on arrest of the four persons would be taken after proper investigation in the matter. On the other hand, the Dibrugarh police will send the suspected rhino horn to the forensic laboratory for proper diagnosis, PadmanabhBaruah said.
