Freedom fighter Tularam Koch of Lakhimpur district passes away

Noted freedom fighter of Lakhimpur district, Tularam Koch breathed his last due to old-age ailments in the late hours on Thursday night.

LAKHIMPUR: Noted freedom fighter of Lakhimpur district, Tularam Koch breathed his last due to old-age ailments in the late hours on Thursday night. He is the permanent resident of Hindu Maj-Gaon under the Siyajuli area of the district. On Thursday, the freedom fighter was admitted in Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital after his health condition had deteriorated. He was 85. The mortal remains of the freedom fighter were cremated with full State honour on Friday by offering a gun salute.

Born in 1938, Tolaram Koch took part in the Quit India Movement following the path of non-violence preached by Mahatma Gandhi. Joining the freedom movement, he worked with heart and soul to make the stir against the British success. After the independence of the nation, the freedom fighter emerged as a political and social activist. He was involved with the foundation of various academic, cultural and social organizations in the larger Siyajuli area. The freedom fighter is survived by three daughters and a son with a host of relatives.

In addition to the local public, the vice-president of Asom Rajyik Mukti Jujaru Sanmilan, Bholanath Nagaria, who is also the president of Lakhimpur district unit of the organization, paid the last homage to the freedom fighter paying floral tribute to his mortal remains. Lakhimpur unit general secretary of the organization, Ganesh Dutta, assistant general secretary Dilip Roy also paid tribute to him.

His funeral was completed in the presence of Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan, Superintendent of Police Bedanta Madhav Rajkhowa who paid the last homage to the freedom fighter on behalf of the State government and the district administration. Journalists Association For Assam (JAFA) expressed profound grief at his demise and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.
