PATHSALA: Road accidents by heavy vehicles have become common on national highways. In Bajali, at least 30 people sustained injuries after a bus rammed into a divider at NH-27 near Gaila toll gate in Bhawanipur on Wednesday.

Sources said, the passenger bus, bearing the registration number AS01 GC 5040, lost control and hit the divider at the toll plaza. Thirty people were injured in the accident. The injured persons were admitted to Bhawanipur CHC. The locals of the area rushed to the accident spot and informed Bhawanipur police, following which police personnel reached the accident spot with ambulances and rescued them.

The injured persons were admitted at Bhawanipur CHC. All the passenger are stable and out of danger,” said Debajit Giri, in-charge of Bhawanipur outpost.

Another incident was reported on August 13 at National Highway 27 in Banglipara in the same district where a bus enroute from Guwahati to Barpeta, lost control and rammed into the road divider, leaving numerous passengers injured. The injured persons were rushed to the civil hospital in Pathsala for medical treatment.

Locals claimed, for some commercial vehicles there is no any control by the police or transport department. They blamed the authority concerned for not taking strict measures against erring drivers.

Commuters said most of the overloaded and old vehicles were not questioned by the transport department and traffic police. Polluted vehicles with black smoke move freely in the area without any registration number plates, which is very dangerous for public health as environment pollution is increasing day by day.

A section of people also alleged that the NH-27 road in Pathsala has become a deathtrap for commuters as several parts of the road are filled with potholes.
