LAKHIMPUR: The maiden fresher's social and students' induction programme of the Department of English, Lakhimpur Commerce College was held on Thursday. The programme commenced with the inauguration of the wall magazine of the department by Dr. Lohit Hazarika, Principal of the college.
An open session was held for that occasion which was chaired by Sazzad Hussain, Head of the Department, English and an eminent columnist. The objective of the meeting was explained by Dr Harini Patowary Das. The Principal of the college, Dr Lohit Hazarika, Vice-Principal GK Chetry and Head of the Department of Sociology, Purabi D. Hazarika attended the session as invited guests.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr Lohit Hazarika delivered a brief account of the process of starting the Honours Course in English from the current academic session at the college and urged the students to keep the momentum of their newly-started programme. In his president's address, Sazzad Hussain expressed gratitude to the Principal on behalf of the entire English department for obtaining permission from Dibrugarh University to start Honours Course in English at Lakhimpur Commerce College.
The English department also welcomed the newly-appointed faculty Dr Satya Nath Pegu in the same programme. The first batch of the English Honours students was presented with a commemorative badge and other gifts on that occasion by the department. Jajon Biswas, a student from the maiden batch spoke in that open session. Various cultural programmes were also organized in that open session.
On the other hand, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre (IEC) of Lakhimpur Commerce College was also inaugurated on Friday by Professor Jiten Sarmah, former Principal of Lakhimpur Commerce College. A workshop on entrepreneurship was also organized on this occasion.
In the programme, Professor Jiten Sarmah delivered a speech on the importance of entrepreneurship in the present day context. Dr Lohit Hazarika, Principal of the college, presided over the meeting and delivered a brief speech and appreciated the IQAC for taking initiative to set up the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre (IEC).
