NAGAON: Dr Parikshit Gogoi, a distinguished faculty member of Nowgong College (Autonomous), has been nominated for the esteemed Fulbright-Nehru Academic & Professional Excellence Research Fellowship for the year 2023-24.

Dr Gogoi is an assistant professor of Chemistry and will carry on his research work under the fellowship from September 15, 2023 onwards. He will collaborate with Dr Jaemin Kim of Prairie Research Institute at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, USA. As per the official release Dr Kim is an outstanding material scientist and his research broadly encompasses catalytic materials, with a particular focus on sustainable energy technologies.

Dr Gogoi has received several awards which includes the INSA Summer Research Fellowship for Teachers in 2014 from the Indian National Academy of Science, Bangalore, Raman Fellowship 2016 for Post-Doctoral Research at Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA, from University Grants Commission and Dulal Ch. Goswami memorial research award 2021 by Nowgong College (Autonomous). During his Fulbright-Nehru Research Fellowship, he aims for the catalytic conversion of biomass/lignin bio-oils to aromatics and fuel range hydrocarbons using polyoxometallate catalysts. He will focus on developing catalyst systems to achieve biomass conversions at low temperatures and moderate hydrogen pressure. This process brings a new understanding of the effective utilization of lignin in a biorefinery, which benefits its economy, a release stated here.
